A bit of History - Guadalcanal 1942

The Guadalcanal campaign was a significant strategic victory by Allied forces over the Japanese in the Pacific theatre. The Japanese had reached the high-water mark of their conquests in the Pacific, and Guadalcanal marked the transition by the Allies from defensive operations to the strategic offensive in that theatre and the beginning of offensive operations that resulted in Japan's eventual surrender and the end of World War II.

Total casualties were 7100 US died, 31,000 Japanese lost their lives in conflict that was fought between August 7, 1942 and February 9, 1943.

Wednesday, July 14th Todd, Dru and I will be over the entire island of Guadalcanal visiting the various sights and memorials before we go back to our two islands for the remainder of the trip.
